HOUSTON, September 7, 2022 — Asia Society Texas welcomed more than 1,000 guests to the Center's second annual Mid-Autumn Festival, featuring performances, crafts, and food reflecting different cultural traditions inspired by the popular holiday.
Visitors learned about the legend of the Chinese moon goddess Chang'e, the role of mooncakes in the formation of the Ming Dynasty, and the Korean holiday of Chuseok through presentations and performances by Taiwanese artist Shen Chao-Liang, the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan) and Taiwan Academy of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, Ivy Bao and Houston Public Library, and Houston-based K-pop dance cover group KLOVR. All-ages crafts included Jade rabbit-themed gift bags, faux mooncakes, paper lanterns, origami hanboks, and Korean games. Local vendors Luna Lit Media, BlueMothCo, and tinysponge presented a small marketplace for shopping, while Dumpling Haus, Momo Bakes Cake, and Foreign Policy Food Truck sold dumplings, mooncakes, and fusion food onsite.
