Asia Society Texas Celebrates Houston's Muslim Communities at Sixth Eid Festival

HOUSTON, April 16, 2024 — Asia Society Texas celebrated the end of Ramadan and Houston's Muslim communities at its sixth annual Eid festival. Presented as part of AST's Muslim Series, the free festival welcomed almost 1,000 people to enjoy all-ages activities, demonstrations, food, shopping, and ticketed performances.

Inside the Center, visitors embarked on a Silk Road Quest to design suncatchers, create lanterns, make Ramadan gift boxes, and participate in other Eid-inspired activities. In addition to exploring the Xu Bing: Word Alchemy exhibition on view, guests enjoyed ebru (water marbling) and Arabic calligraphy demonstrations by artists with the Islamic Arts Society as well as a vibrant retail bazaar of home goods, clothes, and jewelry. Local school Steps for Dancing presented a lively set of ticketed performances on our stage. Outdoors, guests enjoyed food and drinks sold by BobaHouse, FiLLi Cafe, Popssibilities, and Reza Persian Grill.
The Festival of Eid was presented by the Tameez family. Local community organizations and partners included Brave Little Company, Houston Public Library, Islamic Arts Society, Ismaili Council for the Southwestern U.S., Harris County Public Library, Harris County Elections, and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
