HOUSTON, September 20, 2021 — Asia Society Texas welcomed nearly 1,300 guests to celebrate the Center's first Mid-Autumn Festival since 2016.

Guests of all ages learned about the traditions of  different countries and regions that celebrate the popular holiday, created their own faux mooncakes, and designed Jade rabbit-themed gift bags. In addition to lantern-making, the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association performed a fan dance, shared a photo booth area featuring models in traditional Vietnamese clothing, and shared the story of the Vietnamese Moon Festival. Attendees enjoyed an ensemble of Taiwanese folk songs and a Techno Prince Parade dance presented by the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan) and Taiwan Academy of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston. The day's performances concluded with Houston-based K-pop dance cover group KLOVR, which introduced the traditions of Chuseok before presenting two dances.

Visitors explored a small marketplace of local vendors, including prints, stickers, and more by Just2Artists and pyrography, anime posters, and pins by Bad Saber. The Houston Unity Lions Club provided free, onsite vision screening for babies and young children.

Hungry guests enjoyed handmade dumplings from Dumpling Haus, fusion food from Foreign Policy Food Truck, boba tea from Magic Cup, and Japanese snack boxes from Hako Bento Box Company.
