The 2022 recipient of the Roy M. Huffington Award for Contributions to International Understanding is the trailblazing former CEO of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi, who redefined what it means to be an exceptional leader. The first South Asian woman and immigrant to run a Fortune 50 company, and one of the foremost strategic thinkers of our time, Nooyi transformed PepsiCo with a unique vision, a vigorous pursuit of excellence, and a deep sense of purpose. She did it all while managing a growing family, and now makes a clear call for improving company and community support for young family builders which will help unleash the economy's full potential. Mikki Hebl, Rashmi Kumar, Janet Matsushita, and Hong Ogle will serve as honorary chairs for the 2022 Huffington Award Dinner.

Named after Asia Society Texas' co-founder Roy M. Huffington, the award distinguishes outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions advancing international diplomacy and cultural, social, or economic understanding. It is the highest honor granted by Asia Society Texas, with past award recipients including President George H. W. Bush and former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III.

Please contact Erin Elwin at EElwin@AsiaSociety.org or 713.496.9921 with any questions.

Dress for this event is business, cocktail, or international attire.

About the Honoree

Indra Nooyi served as CEO and chairman of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2019. Her prescient strategic thinking, insight into consumer behavior, and wisdom on managing a vast, global workforce make her one of the world’s most sought-after advisors to entrepreneurs, executives, and governments. She is also revered as a role model for women and immigrants, and celebrated for her empowering messages on inclusivity. At PepsiCo, she was the chief architect of Performance with Purpose, the company’s mission to deliver sustained growth by making more nutritious products, limiting the company’s environmental footprint, and empowering its associates and people in the communities it serves.

She has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor, the U.S. State Department’s award for Outstanding American by Choice, and 15 honorary degrees. In 2021, Indra became an elected member of the American Philosophical Society and joined the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Art. She was also inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame and National Women’s Hall of Fame. She is also the author of the book, My Life in Full: Work, Family and Our Future, a highly-anticipated memoir that offers insight and a call-to-action from one of the world’s most-admired business leaders on how our society can blend work and family – and advance women – in the 21st century. She is married to Raj Nooyi and has two daughters, Preetha and Tara.

About the Moderator

Laura Arnold

Laura Arnold is the co-founder and co-chair of Arnold Ventures, a national philanthropy focused on maximizing opportunity and minimizing injustice through public policy change. For the past 10 years, Laura, her husband John, and their team have worked to advance bipartisan policy solutions to complex problems in America’s criminal justice, health care, education, and democratic systems. Before founding Arnold Ventures, Laura served as a corporate lawyer and executive in the energy industry.

Laura has been a leading voice in criminal justice reform, advocating for solutions to fix a system that she has described as deeply broken, inefficient and unjust. She is a founding partner of the REFORM Alliance, a national criminal justice advocacy organization dedicated to reducing the number of individuals needlessly ensnared in a punitive system of mass incarceration, the revolving door of probation and parole and the penalizing nature of fees and fines. She also serves on the advisory board at Stanford PACS, a research center that seeks to explore and share ideas that drive social change.
