Join us at Asia Society Texas Center for a hands-on family workshop to celebrate the arrival of winter! Learn about arts and culture in Japan and the Philippines by making crafts together as a family, creating new holiday mementos and memories.
Activities include:
- A scavenger hunt in our current exhibition, Divine Spark: Kana Harada where you can look for hidden objects and elements of Japanese culture. Then make your own winter crafts, inspired by nature and Kana Harada’s sculptures.
- Create holiday-themed kirigami and other papercutting crafts such as snowflakes, trees, and gifts.
- Travel to the Philippines and learn about the holiday tradition of creating Parols, a symbol of hope, faith, and victory over darkness. Then create your own Parol lantern made from bamboo and paper.
Throughout the workshop, sip on green tea or enjoy hot chocolate. Try Asian sweets, snacks, and cookies; take a Winter Wonderland selfie in our photo booth; and start a family snowball fight.
This event is free for Asia Society members, but all members must pre-register. Tickets for nonmembers are $10, which includes admission for up to four people.
