ASIA SOCIETY POLICY INSTITUTE, May 26, 2020 — COVID-19 has had an obvious and immediate impact on the level of greenhouse gas emissions, with most estimates forecasting an approximate 10 percent drop globally this year compared to 2019. However, with countries racing to develop and deliver enormous fiscal stimulus measures, there is a risk that a carbon-intensive recovery will wipe out these short-term gains and put the world even further off-track from achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as the science demands. A conversation with the CEO of the European Climate Foundation and architect of the Paris Agreement, Laurence Tubiana, to discuss what COVID-19 means for the global flight against climate change and the prospects and possibilities for a green economic recovery.
