VIEW EVENT DETAILSThis program has been cancelled. Please contact Visitor Services at 713.496.9901 with any questions.
Asia Society is partnering with Writers in the Schools (WITS) to offer a four-week creative writing workshop inspired by the exhibition 3DPRK: North Korean Portraits by Matjaž Tančič. With guidance from professional WITS writers, students in grades 2nd-6th will view and respond to the exhibition over a period of four Saturdays in October. By using the featured photographs as doorways to thoughtful discussion and creative expression, students will craft original pieces of writing connecting their individual experiences to the portraits of everyday North Korean citizens.
This workshop is for students grade 2nd-6th.
Workshop Dates
Saturdays, October 8, 15, 22, 29

About 3DPRK
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (commonly referred to as North Korea) is an area of Asia that is unfamiliar to many. Matjaž Tančič’s (b.1982, Slovenia) portraits are taken using a 3D stereoscopic technique, requiring each subject to stand motionless for minutes while multiple photographs capture the requisite perspectives. His landmark 3DPRK series offers a unique glimpse of the citizens of Pyongyang — North Korea’s capital — as well as workers, farmers, educators, athletes, and entertainers from across North Korea.
