Help Us Build a More Inclusive World
The program opened with a performance by dhol drummer Ketan Nayak before master of ceremonies Rekha Muddaraj welcomed guests to the festive evening. Rathna Kumar’s Anjali Dance Company presented a traditional Bharatanatyam dance that segued into a fashion show produced by Simran Rihal. With a soundtrack provided by Houston legend DJ Rocky, the fashion show consisted of three segments highlighting multiple generations of Houston’s South Asian community, with families and couples walking the runway to showcase intricate fabrics and designs as well as the workmanship behind vintage garments and modern luxury clothing. Rhythm India closed out the show with a rollicking Bollywood-style performance that climaxed with a dance to the Academy Award-winning smash “Naatu Naatu.”
Following the show, guests attended a reception where they sampled contemporary takes on traditional Indian foods from Dawaat Catering and enjoyed the opportunity to learn Bollywood dance moves with a demo provided by Rhythm India and music played by DJ Rocky.
