Short Film Kapaemahu

Kapaemahu reveals the healing power of four mysterious stones on Waikiki Beach — and the legendary dual male and female spirits within them. The first Hawai'ian film to be shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short, it did not make it to the final round of nominations. But Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu's film is nevertheless a beautiful and groundbreaking illustration of a Hawai'ian third-gender legend in a short, 8-minute format.

Silkroad Ensemble at the UMassAmherst Fine Arts Center

Members of the Grammy Award-winning Silkroad Ensemble present highlights from their 20+ year trajectory, including original compositions and traditional repertoire with global reach. The performance will be immediately followed by a live Q&A featuring Silkroad artists and special guests, in which they will cover everything from their musical influences to the future of the genre-bending, border-breaking social impact arts organization.
