Drawn from Nature brings together a group of artists for whom nature plays a pivotal role in the inspiration for, and execution of, their artworks. Houston, Texas, November 27, 2015 —  Asia Society Texas Center’s holiday tradition of “FREE” admission into its latest exhibition continues this year with Drawn from Nature throughout December. Visitors are invited to experience the cultural gift of art created by a group of contemporary artists for whom nature plays a pivotal role in the inspiration for, and execution of, their works.

Sopheap Pich forms sculpture out of organic materials such as rattan, beeswax, bamboo, and burlap. The sculptures echo vegetal, geometric, and corporal forms. Mineko Grimmer’s sculptural sound installations position pebbles frozen with water into forms above wire and wood sculptures. Palden Weinreb uses his deep study of the geometry inherent in nature and its relationship to Tibetan Buddhist philosophy. The large-scale charcoal sculptures of Seon Ghi Bahk challenge viewers to consider the cyclical nature of the physical world.

Through the tradition of gift-giving, Asia Society is offering the community a cultural experience with its first-ever exhibition dedicated to nature.

“Once again, we hope to give the entire community a gift they will remember and cherish,” said Rose Rougeau, Senior Director, Communication & Audience Engagement at Asia Society. “This gift of art takes the viewer back to a simpler time; it takes them back to nature.”

The complimentary exhibition can be seen throughout the month of December.

Asia Society is located in the heart of the Museum District at 1370 Southmore Boulevard and is open Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 6 pm and weekends, 10 am to 6 pm. Children 12 years and under, are admitted free of charge. The building and gallery will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
