The CCP Absorbs China’s Private Sector
NEW YORK, September 7, 2023 — The Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations and the Hoover Institution’s project on China’s Global Sharp Power launch their new joint report, The CCP Absorbs China’s Private Sector: Capitalism with Party Characteristics. The report outlines the CCP’s massive endeavor to use private capital to bolster the party’s political authority in the country's economy while pursuing Xi Jinping’s ambition for a global superpower status. Report author and Hoover visiting fellow Matthew Johnson opens the program with an introduction to the report and a panel discussion follows featuring Yasheng Huang, Epoch Foundation professor of International Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management; Orville Schell, vice president and Arthur Ross director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at the Asia Society; and Anne Stevenson-Yang, founder and research director at J Capital Research.
