2021 Arts & Museum Summit: Keynote Address
NOVEMBER 17, 2021 — Reimagining Museum Narratives in the 21st Century—the fifth edition of the biennial Asia Society Arts & Museum Summit—focuses on issues relating to decolonization in the arts. Twenty-six speakers explore topics that include decolonizing curatorial practices, re-negotiating art historical narratives, and deconstructing the legacies of regional colonial histories. Speakers and registrants to the virtual summit represent a total of 33 countries, including countries of origin for participants from Asian diasporas.
Dr. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak contextualizes the broader cultural climate, proposes navigating post-colonial landscapes with empathy to better represent holistic narratives and marginalized voices, and examines the reconceived missions in the art and culture sector in light of recent events. (1 hr., 16 min.)
