NOVEMBER 17, 2021 — Reimagining Museum Narratives in the 21st Century—the fifth edition of the biennial Asia Society Arts & Museum Summit—focuses on issues relating to decolonization in the arts. Twenty-six speakers explore topics that include decolonizing curatorial practices, re-negotiating art historical narratives, and deconstructing the legacies of regional colonial histories. Speakers and registrants to the virtual summit represent a total of 33 countries, including countries of origin for participants from Asian diasporas.
Dr. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak contextualizes the broader cultural climate, proposes navigating post-colonial landscapes with empathy to better represent holistic narratives and marginalized voices, and examines the reconceived missions in the art and culture sector in light of recent events.
