Spotlight on Climate Solutions: Climate Change, Refugees, and the Drift to the Right
SAN FRANCISCO, September 11, 2018 — Media, development, and policy experts discuss the role that climate change plays in fueling conflicts and mass migration and how this affects the political landscape of the countries in which these migrants seek shelter. Speakers included Tom Friedman, author and New York Times columnist; Kevin Rudd, former prime minister of Australia and president of Asia Society Policy Institute; Luis Alberto Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank; and Heidi Cullen, director of communications and strategic initiatives at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. The conversation was moderated by American broadcast journalist Ray Suarez and was co-presented by the World Affairs Council. The program was part of COAL + ICE in San Francisco, a three-week climate-related festival of dance, spoken word, food, family activities, films, educational programming, and creative dialogue that invites diverse audiences to participate in a conversation about climate change.
