Excellence and Equity During the Pandemic: A Step Forward or a Step Backward?
What has the COVID-19 pandemic revealed about the adequacy of our education systems to meet profound challenges? How has it illuminated disparities in the quality of education for immigrant, racial, and other marginalized students? Join the Center for Global Education at Asia Society and Surrey Schools in British Columbia, Canada to discuss these issues as well as how Surrey Schools and other education systems globally have responded to these critical challenges. (1 hr., 18 min.)
This virtual program will feature early findings from an ongoing study of Surrey Schools’ implementation of equity strategies, including how these strategies facilitated the pivot to blended online and in-school experiences aimed at maintaining the quality of learning while supporting students and parents emotionally. Convened in conjunction with Asia Society’s Global Cities Education Network (GCEN), which brings together teams of high-ranking educators and officials from 11 locations in Asia and North America, this program will feature insights on making schools future-ready to ensure they meet the needs of all students.
