2020 Teachers Workshop: COVID-19 and Xenophobia Towards Asians
July 31, 2020 — Asia Society Northern California hosted its first-ever virtual Teachers Workshop on July 31-August 1, 2020 on the theme "Technology and Humanity: Contemporary China and Asia for K-12 Grade Classrooms" in partnership with the 1990 Institute. In this session on COVID-19 and xenophobia towards Asians —moderated by Clay Dube, director of the U.S.-China Institute at University of Southern California — author and activist Helen Zia drew on her own research and experiences to discuss how to combat systemic oppression against Asian Americans in the classroom.
