Asia Society Policy Institute Issues Climate Action Brief on Bangladesh
NEW YORK; Dec 6, 2023 — Timed to the COP28 World Climate Action Summit currently underway in the UAE, the Asia Society Policy Institute has issued the latest in its series of country-specific climate action briefings, this one focusing on Bangladesh.
One of Asia’s fastest-growing economies since 1971, Bangladesh is expected to graduate from the United Nations' list of Least Developed Countries by 2026. Yet this growth has exacerbated the country’s significant environmental challenges. With a high population density, currently ranked ninth in the world, Bangladesh could see as many as 13.3 million people displaced by 2050 as a result of climate change.
Bangladesh has responded to these challenges with proactive climate action; it was one of the first developing countries to establish a coordinated action plan in 2009.
