Master Crafts of Japan: Redefining Crafting for Our Shared Future
TOKYO, November 22, 2021 — Japanese pottery specialist Robert Yellin delivers a keynote address at the Japan Center's Arts Committee signature symposium, an event bringing together activists making efforts to open new thinking and markets for traditional Japanese crafts. Yellin, who talked about shifts in overseas perceptions and collections of contemporary Japanese ceramic art, was followed by a panel discussion discussing proactive movements that supports Japanese traditional crafts in danger of extinction. Additional speakers included Steve Beimel, director of JapanCraft21; Tomoko Iwaseki, managing director of The Creation of Japan; and Tsutomu Horiuchi, Asia Society Japan arts committee co-chair.
