Diplomatic Dinner at Twin Oaks Estate
VIEW EVENT DETAILSHis Excellency Jason C. Yuan is delighted to invite Asia Society members and friends to a diplomatic dialogue dinner at Twin Oaks Estate. Mr. Yuan will provide his perspectives on the U.S.-Taiwan relations and the complicated relationship between the United States, China and Taiwan.
Mr. Yuan assumed his position as the Chief Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in August, 2008. Previously, he represented Taiwan's KMT-PFP political coalition in the United States from 2004 to 2007; held the position of Director General at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles from 1998 to 2003; served as Taiwan's Ambassador to Panama from 1996 to 1998, as Taiwan's Representative in Canada from 1994-1998, and as Director-General of the Department of North American Affairs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taipei from 1991 to 1994, and as Deputy Director and then Director of the Congressional Liaison Division at Taiwan's Coordination Council for North American Affairs from 1979 to 1991. Prior to his diplomatic career, Ambassador Yuan served in Taiwan's Navy, graduating from the Chinese Naval Academy in 1963 and gaining his first introduction to Washington as Assistant and then Acting Naval Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of China from 1974-1979.
Mr. Yuan earned a Master's Degree in Business and Public Administration from Southeastern University in Washington, DC, and received two post-graduate certificates – one from the PBA Program at National Chengchi University in Taiwan and another in U.S. National Security Management from the National Defense University in Washington, DC. He has received numerous honors during his career, including a Scholarship Medal in 1974, Taiwan's Foreign Service Medal in 1986 and 1994, and the Order Vasco Nύňez de Balboa en el Grado de Cruz from the Panamanian government in 1998. He was conferred a Doctorate of Humane Letters by Park University in May, 2010 in recognition of his many years of service in the global community. Ambassador Yuan is married to Mrs. Margaret Yuan and they have two children.
