A Dash of Singapore Culinary Diplomacy
VIEW EVENT DETAILSHer Excellency Chan Heng Chee, Singapore's Ambassador to the United States, and Asia Society are delighted to invite you to sample a dash of culinary diplomacy at the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore.
Join us on a journey of gastronomical discovery as we bring you an evening of music, Singaporean food, and a new book about traditional Singaporean family recipes that might just unleash the secrets to one's culinary prowess.
Cheryl Tan, a Singaporean writer based in New York, will tell us more about her latest memoir on food and family, A Tiger in the Kitchen. Sample some delectable Singaporean food as we hear Cheryl pay homage to culinary matriarchs in her family, and hear stories about living, loving, and eating in the city-state. Copies of A Tiger in the Kitchen will be on sale at the event.
Yanyan Kong, an erhu soloist who performed with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra from 2006 to 2008, will open the evening with a musical ensemble of "Jasmine Flower," "Horse Racing," and "Rasa Sayang."
Adam Brookes, the BBC's Washington correspondent, will moderate this event. Prior to moving to Washington, Brookes served as BBC's correspondent in Beijing and in Jakarta. He is a visiting scholar at Harvard, and holds a degree in Chinese from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies.
