China in Those Days, with Thomas Brandt
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAt the turn of the last century, it was a privilege to send and receive pictorial postcards from far-flung lands like China. Photography was an expensive novelty and snapshots from other parts of the world were rare, if not unattainable. Thomas Brandt will provide an illustrated presentation of his collection of postcards from China, which date as far back as 1895. In addition to their importance as memorabilia, this vintage collection preserves China's social history in a unique way. These snapshots are not to be found in museums or national archives and few remain for our education.
Thomas Brandt is an economist and the General Manager of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kuala Lumpur. He has conducted nearly 100 presentations across the world on business in Asia, and has been actively consulting small and medium-sized companies on market entry strategies into Asian markets. In addition to China in Those Days, he is the author of Asia in Those Days and AsiaComic.
