How Europe Should Deal With China
VIEW EVENT DETAILSExecutive Round Table With Prof. Sebastian Heilmann [PASSPORT MEMBERS ONLY]
For a long time, Europe’s relationships with China seemed to be on autopilot. European businesses were eager to participate in China’s boom, and politicians assumed that with growing wealth, China’s system would open up and liberalize. But now the tone has shifted: There’s skepticism, yet Europe has so far struggled to come up with a clear and unified approach to China.
Asia Society Switzerland is delighted to invite Passport Members to an exclusive round table discussion with Prof. Sebastian Heilmann. He is Chair Professor for Government and the Political Economy of China at the University of Trier. From 2013 to 2018, he served as founding director for the Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) in Berlin, one of the leading European think tanks on Chinese affairs. He concurrently belongs to the 15 German representatives of the semi-official German-Chinese Dialogue Forum. Heilmann has many years’ experience providing advice to German and European policy-makers and corporate leaders.
