In 2017, Australia became one of the first countries in the world to develop an Indo-Pacific strategy. The strategy articulates Australia’s interest in supporting an open and secure Indo-Pacific, and includes a number of objectives, such as strengthening the country’s alliance with the US; furthering its cooperation with Southeast Asia and other partners in the region; facilitating an open regional economy; and strengthening a stable and rules-based international order.

Prior to becoming Australia’s Ambassador to Germany, Philip Green headed the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Indo-Pacific Division, where he played a key role in implementing the strategy. In this capacity, he also worked closely with ASEAN member states and other partners, and played a central role in the finalisation of the TPP agreement and further development of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (also known as the Quad), a strategic dialogue between Australia, India, Japan and the US.

Join us for an exclusive conversation over lunch and hear from Ambassador Green about Australia’s Indo-Pacific policies and priorities, and how Australia’s strategy compares to those developed by Germany, Switzerland, and the US. We are looking forward to an interesting and interactive discussion.

Ambassador Philip Green

Philip Green has been Australian Ambassador to Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein since October 2020. Previously he was responsible for leading Australia's Indo-Pacific strategy, as well as managing relations with the United States, Canada and ASEAN. Before that he served as Ambassador to Singapore, South Africa and Kenya, and as International Advisor and Chief of Staff under Kevin Rudd during his time as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
