The Asia Society Book Club
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAt this Asia Society Book Club, we'll discuss "How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia", the third novel by the renowned writer Mohsin Hamid. His first book "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" became a million-copy international bestseller. He has since established himself as an inventive storyteller with his finger on the world's pulse.
The book tells the tale of a poor boy’s quest for wealth and love and thereby presents a striking view on contemporary life at a time of crushing upheaval. Romantic without being sentimental, political without being didactic and spiritual without being religious, it brings an unflinching gate to the violence and hope it depicts. It takes place in an unnamed country that resembles Hamid's home country Pakistan.
"Mr. Hamid reaffirms his place as one of his generation's most inventive and gifted writers." – Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
"Marvelous and moving." – TIME Magazine
