Shom Sen
Shom Sen was Asia Society’s first Jack Wadsworth Fellow. During his fellowship, Mr. Sen focused on global trade policy and food innovation and food security issues.
Before coming to the Asia Society in January 2014, Mr. Sen served as Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ministry of International Trade in the Province of British Columbia (B.C.). Under his leadership, the Division achieved key milestones including developing a strategic plan integrating geographic and sector strategies, obtaining treasury board funding for an expanded trade and investment program, progressing major milestones such as B.C.’s contribution to the conclusion of the Canada-EU trade agreement, doubling B.C.’s presence overseas, and attracting significant investments to the Province, including strategic investments such as Daimler.
Prior to this position, Mr. Sen was Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Kraft Foods, Asia Pacific, where he led the development of the strategic plan, drove regional mergers and acquisitions, and worked as a core team member on a global acquisition for US$7.6 billion. Before joining Kraft, Mr. Sen was General Manager, Strategy & Portfolio for the retail oil products business of Royal Dutch Shell (East), where he led projects to turn around profitability in specific markets, was part of the team that negotiated a 20-year strategic alliance with a multi-billion dollar retailer, and worked on a number of major country-entry strategies for Asia Pacific. Mr. Sen also held senior business development, marketing, e-business, and finance and strategy roles for Sara Lee Corporation in the United States and in Asia. He worked on both the apparel and bakery sides of the business and supported Sara Lee’s official sponsorship efforts for the 1996 Olympic Games.
Mr. Sen serves on the board of the British Columbia Automobile Association. He is a graduate of the University of British Columbia and Harvard Business School.
