Why We're Jealous of Everyone Going to Fuji Rock Festival
The Fuji Rock Festival has a reputation for being the biggest, craziest, and generally most awesome three days of music in Japan. It's a reputation they have lived up to year after year, and Fuji Rock 2010 (July 30-August 1) won't be any different. This summer, headliners include Muse, Roxy Music, and Massive Attack. But if you haven't heard of those guys, scroll through the lineup. With eight stages and almost 200 acts, music junkies are bound to find at least 10 bands they are dying to see.
Music styles range from classic rock to indie to punk to singer songwriter and everything in between. Local Japanese musicians like Makoto Ayukawa of Sheena & The Rokkets, Anyango, and the Dex Pistols will share the stages with international bands like MGMT, Vampire Weekend, and Atoms for Peace (a side project band comprised of Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers). The Fuji Rock Festival is so jammed with talent that people are going to have some heart-breaking decisions to make when it comes to choosing what bands to watch.
But the music is only half the experience. Fuji Rock Festival is located in the picturesque Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa-machi, Niigata, Japan. Those who booked far in advance probably got a hotel, but the majority of festival-goers will be braving the weather and the body odor in tents for three days, soaking in the music and the funky Fuji Rock energy.
We're sure they wouldn't have it any other way.
