BASIC with Professor Yang Yijie
Mumbai, 2 March 2017 – Asia Society India Centre hosted Professor Yang Yijie, Associate professor at Rural Development Institute of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences for a breakfast discussion on the land reforms in China. Professor Yijie mentioned that the land reforms have led to socio economic changes in China with grassroot governance and collectivization at its core. The Chinese government introduced pilot projects in its efforts to revamp the rural land policy. There have been two major standpoints to the revolution in the Chinese land reforms, first, it has been a collective economic Organisation that led it and second it was a self-governed Organisation of the villagers. This has given more autonomy to the villagers who earn their livelihoods from the government owned land.
