Two renowned Asian American theater makers appear in conversation with theater critic Diep Tran. They will discuss the importance of whose stories are told and why this is so crucial to the American identity. Both Francis Jue and Lauren Yee have been nominated for 2020 Drama Desk Awards; winners will be announced on May 31, 2020.
Francis Jue has appeared on Broadway in Pacific Overtures, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and M. Butterfly. Some favorite Off-Broadway credits include Cambodian Rock Band (Lucille Lortel Award), Soft Power (Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award), Wild Goose Dreams (Obie Award), Yellow Face (Obie), Kung Fu, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Coraline, Falsettoland, King Lear, and A Language of Their Own. Other favorite theatre credits include The Language Archive (BATCC), The King of the Yees (BATCC, Scenie Award), In the Next Room... (AriZoni Award), Cabaret (BATCC), Red (Philly Award), Tiger Style!, The King & I, Kiss of the Spiderwoman (Drama-Logue Award), Miss Saigon (Elliot Norton Award), A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Honors: Doris Duke Artists Award, Steinberg Playwright Award, Whiting Award, Steinberg/ATCA Award, American Academy of Arts and Letters literature award, Horton Foote Prize, Kesselring Prize, Primus Prize, Hodder Fellowship, #1 and #2 plays on 2017 Kilroys List.
