Justine Hardy, author of In the Wonder House and Scoop Wallah, is an India-based journalist who has explored the breadth and depth of Indian culture over 20 years. Her latest nonfiction work, In the Valley of Mist, recounts the ongoing Kashmir insurgency through the eyes of the Dar family, with whom Hardy has stayed for many years, while reporting on this conflict. In The Valley of Mist is an extraordinary story of family survival, at the heart of a conflict within and beyond the Muslim world.
Also intrinsic to Hardy's involvement as a journalist is her commitment to several non-governmental organizations and foundations in India:
- Drag'The Development and Research Action Group (slum education in Delhi);
- The Kashmir Welfare Trust (earthquake reconstruction and rehabilitation in Kashmir);
- A mental health project, also in Kashmir.
Hardy will talk about her work as a journalist and social rights activist with journalist Sadanand Dhume. Their conversation will be followed by this discussion will be followed by footage from filmmaker John Halpern's latest work in downtown Srinagar.
