Japanese Government Confers Prestigious Honor on ASPI Vice President Wendy Cutler
Cutler receives Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star
April 29, 2022 — The government of Japan announced that Asia Society Policy Institute Vice President Wendy Cutler will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in recognition of her contributions toward strengthening economic relations between Japan and the United States. Cutler was among a number of foreign recipients to receive the honor as part of Japan’s 2022 spring conferment of decoration.
"Having seen the U.S.-Japan trade relationship move from one of friction to cooperation over many years, I am honored to have played a part in this evolution," Cutler said. "I am grateful to the government of Japan for this honor."
Prior to joining the Asia Society, Cutler served in the Office of the United States Trade Representative, where she played a critical role in advancing the U.S. trade agenda in the Asia-Pacific. In particular, while serving as Assistant United States Trade Representative, and Acting Deputy United States Trade Representative, she was instrumental in paving the way for Japan’s participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, and in concluding those negotiations.
