On Uli Sigg’s Resignation From Our Board
Thanking a Pioneer With a Steadfast Commitment to Asia Competence
Uli Sigg has always been a pioneer. In 1980, he set up the first industrial joint venture between the People’s Republic of China and the outside world, marking the beginning of the PRC’s epochal globalization process. Soon after, he became one of the first collectors of contemporary Chinese art, building a singularly important anthology in the process.
In 2016, he was a founding member of Asia Society Switzerland – the first Asia Society Center in Europe. From the very beginning, he joined the Board of Asia Society Switzerland. Over the past eight years, the developing organization repeatedly benefitted from Uli’s experience and network spanning China and Asia, accumulated in over 40 years of business, diplomacy, and art, and from his advice on a broad range of topics. He also regularly spoke at events of Asia Society Switzerland, and hosted Asia Society Switzerland’s VIP community at his private home in Mauensee, offering glimpses into his collection, work, and life.
Uli Sigg has decided to resign from the Board of Asia Society Switzerland as of February 2024, to focus on his other engagements. He remains involved as a member of the organization’s Advisory Board.
Asia Society Switzerland is deeply grateful for Uli’s support in launching and developing the organization, and for his steadfast commitment to fostering Asia Competence in Switzerland. We look forward to continued engagement with Uli as esteemed member of our community, and are delighted that he will join us on March 6 for a public conversation as part of our Big Picture series on his approach to collecting art.
