State of Climate Change: Pakistan's Sherry Rehman
Battling disaster in one of the world's most vulnerable countries
GUEST ON THIS EPISODE
Sherry Rehman is Pakistan's Federal Minister for Climate Change. She was just named one of 2023's 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine. At the most recent U.N. climate talks, in November 2022, she led a delegation of 77 developing nations plus China to negotiate a fund to pay for the severe damage these countries are already now suffering from climate disasters.
She sits down with Asia Society Switzerland to talk about the apocalyptic effect climate change is already having on Pakistan, which last year saw record heat and flooding covering a third of the country. She explains what she means by 'climate colonialism', and how she remains hopeful the world will realise that real action needs to be taken now.
