Evan Feigenbaum, Vice President for Studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, oversees research in Washington, D.C., Delhi, and Beijing. He has a career spanning the highest levels of government, academia, think tanks, and the private sector, covering Central, South, and East Asia.
He has a PhD in Chinese politics from Stanford University and worked for the U.S. government as a deputy assistant secretary of state first for Central Asia and then for South Asia. He was also a member of the policy planning staff with responsibility for East Asia. Evan was vice-chairman of the Paulson Institute at the University of Chicago, where he co-founded MacroPolo, the institute’s digital venture on the Chinese economy. He was led the Asia practice at Eurasia Group, a risk consultancy.
In this episode he talks about how China and the U.S. act as 'security narcissists', creating a danger for the whole region, and how other Asian countries are nervously trying to navigate this predicament.
