The Asia Society Book Salon – Amnesty
VIEW EVENT DETAILSBy Aravind Adiga
Join our Book Salon where we read and discuss Asian books.
This time we will read Amnesty by Booker Prize-winner Aravind Adiga.
Danny, an illegal immigrant in Sydney, Australia, with a vegan girlfriend, a hidden accent and highlights in his hair, lives as 'normal' a life as it gets. When he becomes a witness in a murder case he is confronted with a choice: Come forward with his knowledge about the crime and risk being deported? Or say nothing, and let justice go undone? Over the course of just one day, evaluating the weight of his past, his dreams for the future, and the unpredictable, often absurd reality of living invisibly and undocumented, he must wrestle with his conscience and decide if a person without rights still has responsibilities. (– adapted from goodreads)
Reviews: among others in the New York Times and the Guardian.
This Event is for Asia Society Members only. How to become a member?
UPDATE: We have moved this meeting online. If we are a lot of people we will split up in groups to allow everyone to actively take part in the discussion. For more information about upcoming meetings and books to read, please join the WhatsApp group or contact us at [email protected].
