VIEW EVENT DETAILSIt Begins With Metamorphosis: Xu Bing Education Programs
Registration at 1:45 pm
Workshop at 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Age limitation: For families with children aged 6-12 years old
Language: English
Many of Xu Bing’s works in the exhibition draw upon the calligraphic principle of using words as art and express his fascination with language. This workshop is designed in accordance to Xu Bing’s creative treatment to languages.
Each family workshop will begin with an interactive gallery tour led by experienced museum educators. Afterwards, participants will work together to develop their own secret family language referencing Xu Bing’s Square Word Calligraphy, The Character of Characters and Book from the Ground. Each family will write a family letter using the secret family language, creating “un-readable” family letters that are unique and comprehensible only within each family.
Designed for children aged 6-12, the family workshop provides creative, hands-on opportunities for children to explore the gallery and exhibition with their parents or caregivers. Crafted as an opportunity for quality family time, the workshop encourages dialogues in families and nurture creativity in children and adults alike.
About the exhibition:
Curated by Dr. Yeewan Koon, “It Begins with Metamorphosis: Xu Bing” is the first major solo exhibition of Xu Bing in Hong Kong featuring some of the latest artworks by this renowned artist. This exhibition shows how metamorphosis marks the beginning of a process that brings insights to Xu Bing and his art. Through the transformative power of materiality and communication, concepts of memories and histories are reenacted, challenged and reflected. Far from being a retrospective look at the past, Xu Bing shows how concepts and values of time are fundamental to our lives today.
