Kendra also serves as a non-resident fellow at the National Bureau of Asian Research. Kendra has been in China since 2002. She began her career as a user researcher and developer, building cross-cultural interfaces for foreign firms entering the China market, and moved into consulting on Chinese interfaces and user behaviour.

As a business and tech reporter who has experience reporting across China, Taiwan, Europe and the U.S., Cheng was also the Nikkei Asia team winning general excellence for Best in Business Awards with the U.S. Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing(SABEW) in both 2022 and 2023. Cheng has received several SOPA Awards for her 2018 and 2019 coverage across scoop awards, business reporting, and explanatory reporting, on topics related to China’s chip ambition and U.S. crackdown on Huawei.

Mark is a regular keynote speaker both in China and internationally from Helsinki to Hong Kong, Barcelona to Beijing and Shanghai to Sydney and many places in between. Mark has worked with over 200 brands including Nike, P&G, Colgate, Panasonic, Tourism Australia, IKEA, Fonterra and Zespri.

In this role, James developed and managed a multitude of projects, working with ACBC’s business membership and Federal and State Governments to foster greater understanding and business engagement with China. His project portfolio included high-level national China policy briefings, China-Australia Free Trade Agreement advocacy across regional Australia, market entry delegations to China, an Australia-China business podcast, and online business support camps.

James has also worked with trade and investment advisory firm TradeWorthy on Asia Development Bank research on Belt and Road integration in ASEAN countries. Previously, James lived and worked in Beijing as an environmental consultant on European Commission climate change and development projects. He also worked as a tour leader to North Korea and in 2020 self-published the photography book Hotels of Pyongyang.
