Asia Briefing LIVE 2023 - Sydney

VIEW EVENT DETAILS

Our premier executive forum taking the pulse of a complex Asia and Australia’s relationships in the region.

Asia Briefing Live Banner

Join us in October 2023 in Sydney for the annual Asia Briefing LIVE forum, as we assess the economic, geopolitical and business trends in Asia.

Asia Briefing LIVE is Asia Society Australia's signature event - an annual executive forum taking the pulse of the major developments in Asia and the state of Australia’s engagement with the region.

Building on the success of our public newsletter, Briefing MONTHLY, Asia Briefing LIVE brings together senior business leaders and policymakers for an in-depth discussion of the geopolitical and business landscape in Asia, and Australia’s relations with the region against the backdrop of strategic realignment and economic uncertainty.

Panel 1 - Neighbourhood Watch

The Albanese government describes Australia's external environment as the most challenging since the end of Second World War.  Businesses are navigating growing risks. From power struggles to demographic shifts, trade disputes to emerging challenges, will peace and prosperity endure in the Indo-Pacific? How can Australia engage with its neighbours and support regional stability?  This year’s Neighbourhood Watch panel will explore Australia’s role in an increasingly complex Asia.

Panel 2 - Deals and Dollars

International trade finds itself immersed in a sea of disruption. Geopolitical contest is reshaping the global order as protectionism and competition challenge openness and multilateralism.  Meanwhile, the threat of climate change and energy security are driving the global energy transition with Asia at its centre. How can Australia diversify trade with Southeast Asian markets while strengthening long standing trading relationships in East Asia? This year’s Deals and Dollars panel will explore the evolving nature of international trade and investment in an age of uncertainty.

View from India

While questions linger over domestic minority and opposition rights under Prime Minister Modi, India has truly arrived on the world stage as a global player of growing stature and economic heft. This year Prime Ministers Albanese and Modi have shared senior bilateral visits in both Australia and India as the relationship seemingly goes from strength-to-strength. With clear momentum behind Australia-India ties, what are the opportunities for further bilateral collaboration and how can business find more opportunity in India’s economy?
