North Korea has dominated headlines and sparked widespread concern among the international community through the illegal and rapid development of its nuclear and missile programs. ASPI aims to further understanding and knowledge about North Korea’s motivations and identify ways that regional actors, including the United States, can help maximize stability on the Korean Peninsula. To do this, ASPI convenes dialogues among regional actors, hosts policy discussions, and provides analysis and expert commentary to shape practical policy solutions. In 2017 and 2018, ASPI organized a series of discussions on the North Korean nuclear program and opportunities for a diplomatic path out of the nuclear crisis for the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
