Since President Xi‘s speech at the WEF 2017 and the 19th party congress in October 2017, it has become clear that China is looking to increase its standing in the world. Prof. Yan Xuetong is one of China‘s leading commentators on foreign policy and international relations. In conversation with Nico Luchsinger of Asia Society Switzerland, he will discuss his views on China‘s global role in the present and future.
This event is hosted in cooperation with the Institute of Asian and Oriental Studies at the University of Zurich and the Europa Institut at the University of Zurich.
Prof. Yan Xuetong is the Dean of the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University, the Secretary General of the World Peace Forum, and the Editor-in-Chief of The Chinese Journal of International Politics. He is Vice Chairman of China Association of International Relations Studies and China Association of American Studies, and a member of Consultation Committee of Ministry of Commerce of PRC. Prof. Yan received his Ph. D of political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992, his M.A. of international relations from the Institute of International Relations in 1986, and his B.A. of English from Heilongjiang University in 1982. Prof. Yan has been selected as Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier for 3 consecutive years from 2014 to 2016. He has published more than a hundred papers and articles on international relations. His recent books include Inertia of History: China and the World in Next 10 Years (2013), The Analysis of International Relations-Third Edition (2017), Ancient Chinese Thought, Modern Chinese Power (2011), etc.
