Join us as we mark the 10th anniversary of the Osborn Elliott Prize for Excellence in Journalism on Asia, awarded this year to a team from Bloomberg News for their investigatory series Revolution to Riches, which traced how China’s elite have accumulated vast wealth. The award ceremony will be followed by a conversation about the ins and outs of how big stories are reported in China and what’s ahead in 2013.
With:
Jonathan Landreth, Managing Editor, ChinaFile, an online magazine published by the Asia Society Center on U.S.-China Relations
Dune Lawrence, Projects and Investigations Team, Bloomberg News
Richard McGregor, Washington Bureau Chief, Financial Times
Garrick Utley, Founding President, SUNY Levin Institute and former anchor and correspondent, NBC News, ABC News and CNN
Named for the legendary civic journalist and author, the Oz Prize honors the late Osborn Elliott, a legendary journalist and author and one of the earliest practitioners of "civic journalism" — the deliberate focusing of the journalistic enterprise on urgent issues of public policy. The $10,000 prize is awarded annually by an independent jury and recognizes the best example of written journalism about Asia during the calendar year.
The evening will also recognize three additional writers the jury cited for excellence: Umar Cheema, the Center for Investigative Reporting (Pakistan), Vinod K. Jose with The Caravan (India), and Paul Mooney, writing for the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong).
Free admission; registration required. Please call 212-517-2742 (Mon-Fri, 1:00-5:00 pm) or reserve online at AsiaSociety.org/tickets
