The Gifts We Carry: Sounds of Migration and Memory

In partnership with the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Asia Society, and the American Anthropological Association, acclaimed musician and arts education advocate Yo-Yo Ma hosts a concert featuring music and poetry from Afghanistan and beyond.

Tune in on Wednesday, June 22 at 6:30 p.m. New York time for a free livestream of the performance, broadcast from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s YouTube channel.

Sharing the stage will be Homayoun Sahki (rubab), Salar Nader (tabla), Ahmad Fanoos (vocals), Elham Fanoos (keyboards), Mehran Fanoos (violin), Hamid Habibzada (tabla), Nazira Wali (cello), and Alex and Sophie Sherzai (vocals). Featured poets include Khet Mar, Zohra Saed, and Genya Turovskaya. Special guest appearance by Chelsey Green (violin).
