The Future of the Internet
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAt present, the internet is a globally connected network operated and relied upon by a variety of different stakeholders. Yet, the pressures of fragmentation toward a “Splinternet” wholly controlled by exclusive entities risks changing the very nature and core of the internet, as well as how it is used to connect, communicate, and collaborate. The COVID-19 pandemic has only emphasized the importance of equal access to the internet as well as its continued functionality and stability.
Join the Asia Society and the Asia Society Policy Institute for a timely discussion on the future of the internet, building on the Declaration for the Future of the Internet (DFI). Special Assistant to the President and the Senior Director for International Economics and Competitiveness on the White House National Security Council (NSC) staff for the Biden administration Peter Harrell will deliver a keynote address, and an expert panel will unpack current trends and future trajectories of global internet governance; including principles, norms, standards, and rules related to how state and non-state stakeholders engage in the digital space.
