Sotheby's Hong Kong is honoured to present the Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction and The Now Evening Auction, which will showcase a distinguished selection of works by Western and Eastern masters. Leading the Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction is Yoshitomo Nara's enigmatic and ethereal I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (2017). A personal favourite of the artist, this work was personally selected by the artist himself and editor Yeewan Koon to be illustrated on the cover of Nara's definitive 2020 monograph. Returning to the artist's iconic portraits of doe-eyed girls with a singular tenderness, this work evinces such strong emotional sentiments that it became the primary image of the Nara's most recent Museum retrospectives at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Aomori Museum of Art. A major highlight from The Now Evening Auction is Nicolas Party's Still Life (2017). A captivating example of Party's masterful investigation of colour, material and art history, Still Life invigorates the traditional still life genre with its neo-surrealist depiction of ten, stalked organic forms.
