Asia is fast becoming an innovation, technology and entrepreneurship hub, witnessing a thriving startup scene and enormous growth opportunities. In the last few years, Hong Kong’s startup ecosystem has boomed with an increase of 24% in 2016 from a year prior. According to InvestHK’s latest survey on Hong Kong’s startup ecosystem, there were 1,926 startups as of August 2016. India is the fourth largest base for startups in the world, with big changes taking place in its ecosystem. It has over 4,000 startups and is looking to double this by 2020. China is becoming one of India’s fastest growing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) investors in its startup ecosystem. With the potential of startups being tomorrow’s job creators and drivers of innovation, this forum, held at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park - the largest incubator system in Hong Kong - will feature startup founders and entrepreneurs with the aim of deepening entrepreneurial connections between Hong Kong and India and provide collaborative opportunities to leverage business linkages in each other’s markets.

In the last two years, Hong Kong has become a global leader in Fintech, positioning itself as the gateway to China’s tech giants. The city now hosts over 300 Fintech startups and three Fintech-focused accelerators, and private investments in Fintech firms have reached US$546 million in 2017, more than double from US$215.5 million in 2016. The outlook for Fintech in India is equally promising: with around 400 companies in Fintech, annual returns on FinTech investment in India are the highest worldwide at 29 percent compared to 20 percent globally. NASSCOM estimates India’s Fintech market to grow 1.7 times by 2020, making it worth $8 billion.

Panel discussions on Fintech and Entrepreneur Showcase by Startups will discuss best practices and the future outlook in Hong Kong and India. Speakers include:

Rohit Dugar, Founder, Young Master Brewery; Kausshal Dugarr, Founder, Teabox; Manasij Ganguli, Founder & CEO, ThreadSol; Prasoon Gupta, Co-Founder, Sattviko; Vani Kola, Managing Partner, Kalaari Capital; Syed Musheer Ahmed, General Manager, FinTech Association of Hong Kong; Iain Reed, Founder & Chairman, EFA & Chairman, TiE Hong Kong; Apoorv R.
