Asia Society Hong Kong Center is proud to support the screening of the documentary – Wai Sing, produced by Mr. Kessay Chan. He is no stranger to Asia Society Hong Kong Center, as he had performed with his loopstation for one-man a cappella in numerous occasions for the members. With his passion of singing, he is bringing us his first self-financed documentary about A cappella in Tin Shui Wai.
About the documentary - Wai Sing
A cappella
– a kind of music which involves no musical instruments but human voices only
Tin Shui Wai
– a city which is formerly known as “Sadness”
In recent years, an actively growing A cappella music scene is spotted among adolescents in Tin Shui Wai. One may wonder: “how could such an uncommon type of music possibly become popular in a community where music was not quite appreciated in the first place?”
Through interviewing and documenting the lives of four young A cappella music lovers from Tin Shui Wai, Wai Sing discusses how adolescents can learn and grow through this unique musical world and thus introduces this “human-voices-only” music to more locals.
Proud to be a Tin Shui Wai resident, the four youngsters wish to be heard not only as individuals but as a city, a city of Possibility and Love.

About Basel from The ELCHK Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School
Basel is made up of seven secondary school students from The ELCHK Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School, who have shown enthusiasm for A Cappella music. The name of the team “Basel” is transcribed from the Cantonese pronunciation of “the number of bars”, which implies that each member of the team is like a bar in a song and no one will be left behind. At the same time, the team hopes to convey positive energy through every bar of their music and share the joy of A Cappella accomplishment. Since Basel was set up, they have been invited to perform at various events in Hong Kong. Basel with most of the songs arranged by the members, they also got the Best Arrangement Award in the Hong Kong International A Cappella Contest 2018 (Secondary School Category).
