Will temporary but sweeping changes to the foreign direct investment review framework aid or impact Australia’s post COVID-19 economic recovery?
Asia Society Australia and Herbert Smith Freehills warmly invite you to a Leaders on Asia briefing with David Irvine AO, Chair, and non-executive member of the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). We hope you can join us for this member-only update on the recent changes to foreign investment regulations in Australia.
Australia has always welcomed and been successful in attracting foreign investment. Not only does it benefit our economy, FDI creates a strong foundation for global connectivity and openness. Yet at a time of extraordinary economic stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rules of the game are changing. To protect Australia’s national interest, the Australian Treasurer has recently announced temporary but significant changes to Australia’s foreign investment regulations. If foreign investment is key to Australia’s economic recovery, understanding and navigating this new regime will become critically important for Australian business leaders and investors.
