As CEO and President, Mr. Shibata is responsible for Nikko Asset Management’s businesses in Japan and across the globe. He has a unique perspective of global investment banking operations and asset management across Asia, Australia and Europe and will update members and invited guests on developments in the sector.
With AUD 271 billion1 under management, Nikko Asset Management is one of Asia’s largest asset managers, providing high-conviction, active fund management across a range of Equity, Fixed Income and Multi-Asset strategies.

About our speaker:
Mr. Takumi Shibata is the Chief Executive Officer and President at Nikko Asset Management Co., Ltd since January 10, 2014 and serves as its Representative Director. Previously, Mr. Shibata served as the Chairman from January 2014 to March 2014 and Executive Chairman since July 2013 at the firm. He joined the firm in July 2013 and is responsible for corporate governance, the board and strengthening relationships with all stakeholders. Drawing on his global network and the wealth of experience, Mr. Shibata is responsible for the group's domestic and international businesses, reinforces relationships with business partners and clients and acts as a catalyst to unite firm's multinational workforce.
Prior to this, he was an Advisor at Nomura Holdings, Inc. and was the Group Chief Operating Officer, as well as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Nomura's wholesale division. Mr. Shibata was the Chief Operating Officer at Nomura Securities Co., Ltd. since June 2008 and served as its Executive Vice President and Director since April 2008. During his time at the firm, he was responsible for the European business and global investment banking operations, global wholesale business, global support functions and the asset management business. Mr. Shibata was also Vice Chairman of the Japan Securities Investment Advisers Association, a Board Member of the International Primary Market Association (London), and a Board Member of the Securities Institute (London). He holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics from Keio University.
