CEO Roundtable: Australia-Vietnam Roundtable
VIEW EVENT DETAILSThe Australian Government has identified Viet Nam as a priority economic and strategic partner in Asia, building on decades of increased bilateral collaboration. Later this year it is expected our two governments will sign the Australia-Viet Nam Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy (VEEES) with the aim of becoming top 10 trading partners and doubling two-way investment. The Strategy will cover trade, investment and other economic cooperation including recommended actions for each country.
Asia Society Australia warmly invited CEOs, Directors and Presidents (Global International) and other senior leaders from the resources, services, manufacturing and tech and innovation sectors to share their experiences expanding into the Vietnamese market in recent years. As Viet Nam emerges as the next economic powerhouse in Southeast Asia, this roundtable aimd to create a community of executives committed to enhancing Australia-Viet Nam economic relations. Participants were asked to present key successes and challenges they have experienced working in this space, and to highlight their views on the trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam in this trade diversification era.
Chaired by Global Head of Legal Services, KPMG and Asia Society Australia Chair, Stuart Fuller (TBC), the discussion touched on case studies and learnings of engaging in Viet Nam, promoting greater awareness and understanding among Australian businesses seeking to enter the Vietnamese market, highlighting the common challenges and barriers of their respective sectors (and across those sectors) in Viet Nam, and high-level future plans Australian businesses have for Viet Nam as our economies reopen.
The Roundtable facilitated a sharing of best practices, challenges and opportunities for each sector in Viet Nam to inform a policy paper with key takeaways and practical ways for the Australian Government to support increased bilateral engagement.
Recent reports, including A Path to Viet Nam by Asia Society Australia and the Australian APEC Study Centre at RMIT University, and the Asia Taskforce: A Second Chance by Asia Society Australia and Business Council of Australia provided further context and helped frame the discussion.
