BHP Billiton, Australia and the Asia-Pacific: Past, Present...and Future?
VIEW EVENT DETAILSBusiness of Asia Luncheon with Andrew Mackenzie, Chief Executive Officer, BHP Billiton
Australia's resources sector has made not just a significant contribution to the prosperity of each and every Australian, but helped to provide the critical inputs necessary to lift hundreds of millions out of poverty, especially in Asia. BHP Billiton, Australia's iconic miner, has been at the centre of this contribution. Australia remains enviably positioned to supply the continued development of Asia. But challenges also lie ahead.
Andrew Mackenzie joined BHP Billiton in 2008 as Chief Executive Non-Ferrous with responsibility for over half of BHP Billiton's 100,000-strong workforce across four continents. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Director of BHP Billiton Limited and BHP Billiton Plc in May 2013. Andrew has over 30 years' experience in oil and gas, petrochemicals and minerals. He has been a non-executive Director of Centrica and has also chaired Demos, one of the UK's most influential think-tanks.
As a leading global resources company, BHP Billiton is among the world's largest producers of major commodities, including aluminium, coal, copper, iron ore, manganese, nickel, silver and uranium, and has substantial interests in oil and gas. The company's purpose is to create long-term shareholder value through the discovery, acquisition, development and marketing of natural resources.
