Join Asia Society Australia, in partnership with Young Australians in International Affairs, to explore the pursuit of peace, stability and prosperity in ASEAN.

An expert panel will dive into the recent affairs and security considerations raised at May’s ASEAN Summit, hosted by Indonesia with the topic “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”. The panel will further discuss Australia’s role and strategic interests in ASEAN affairs.

Speakers

Dominique Wiehahn, Associate Director, Asia Strategy and Impact, RMIT University

Dominique has experience working closely with industry and government to explore new ways to progress shared impact agendas, with a strategic focus on Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Dominique is an alum of the Australia Vietnam Leadership Dialogue and a current participant of the Asialink Leaders program.

Derek McDougall, Professorial Fellow, University of Melbourne

Derek McDougall is a Professorial Fellow in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. His area of interest is Asia-Pacific international politics, with particular reference to Australian engagement.

He has published widely on Asia-Pacific international politics and Australian foreign relations and is also a Research Affiliate in the Peacebuilding Initiative at the University of Melbourne.

Genevieve Donnellon-May, Research Associate, Asia Society Policy Institute

Genevieve Donnellon-May is a geopolitical and global strategy advisor interested in regional resource governance (land, energy, water) and environmental conflict in Asia. She is a 2023 CSIS Pacific Young Leader, an Australia-China Emerging Leader, an Australia-Vietnam Young Leader, and a 2023 Yenching Global Scholar.

She has held positions as the 2022 Young Australians in International Affairs Climate Fellow as well as at the Institute of Water Policy, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, South Korea. Genevieve is also a member of the Indo-Pacific Circle and a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals.

Michelle Lam, ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership

Michelle Lam is a JD candidate at the University of Melbourne who has a passion for promoting youth diplomacy and engagement between Australia and the ASEAN member states.

She is the former Co-CEO of the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership (AASYP) and has research and policy experience developed through time at the Department of Premier and Cabinet WA and the Modern Slavery Research Centre. Michelle has worked as a pro bono paralegal in a top-tier commercial law firm, working on asylum-seeker related matters, and will begin as a graduate lawyer next year at White & Case. Michelle is committed to building capacity and creating connections between young people across the region.
