Queer Talk: A Celebration of the LGBTQ+ Community
VIEW EVENT DETAILSIn celebration of Pride Month, join us for "Queer Talk: A Celebration of the LGBTQ+ Community" while we discuss how the Philippine LGBTQ+ community has and continues to influence popular culture and language in the Philippines which can especially be observed in recent years alongside the rise of social media—from the widespread use of LGBTQ+ vocabulary in both media and day-to-day conversations to the rise in popularity of LGBTQ+ influencers.
Such contributions to language and culture tend to be overlooked, yet deserve more appreciation. The best way to keep language and culture alive is to engage them, so the LGBTQ+ community’s influence thereof is celebrated in Queer Talk: A Celebration of the LGBTQ+ Community. Join us as we explore questions on the role that the community fills in the Philippines, the evolution of the Filipino language alongside beki language, and discussions on tolerance vs. acceptance of the LGBTQ+ in Filipino culture.
The program will be held on June 30, 2023 (Friday) at 4:00 - 5:00 PM PHT, through StreamYard (online) and broadcasted to the official Facebook and YouTube channels of Asia Society Philippines.
